Interludes Hotel Scarborough
Scarborough Fair Carbon . . .
Whenever we make a trip, stay in a hotel, visit the theatre or go to a restaurant we are likely to cause the emission of greenhouse gases. Scarborough Fair Carbon not only offers people the chance to offset these emissions but also gives them the chance to make a contribution to sustainable tourism in Yorkshire.
The scheme, which is based in Scarborough, is run by a not for profit enterprise, Fair Carbon Limited. If a business - such as a hotel - wants to join the scheme all it has to do is let the organisers look at their utility bills and they calculate how much CO2 is emitted by a typical night's stay. Hotel guests can then make voluntary contributions to cover these emissions.
With the money it receives, Fair Carbon Limited purchases verified emissions reductions made by renewable energy projects in developing countries. In addition, at least 10% of receipts will be given to sustainable tourism projects in Yorkshire.
Interludes has been demonstrating its commitment to reduce emissions by giving the scheme a trial run in the second half of 2006. It has proved to be a valuable awareness-raising exercise and guests have invariably asked for more information
